Electrolysis

Electrolysis is still recognised as the only method of permanent hair removal and excellent for the removal of stubborn hair. It is suitable for all hair types and skin types and colours.

There are three different types of electrolysis methods, Galvanic, Thermolysis and Blend Electrolysis. At the clinic we use the Sterex blend method which combines Galvanic and Thermolysis. This is the most effective method especially good for distorted and strong hair follicles.

For successful and effective results, each individual hair requires repeated treatments according to the hair type.. This is because the hair has a growth cycle called anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is when the hair is in a active growth live phase, any hairs treated in this phase are treated more effectively.

How long will the treatment take?

This will be dependent on the area treated. Generally small areas like upper lip and chin can take only 15miniutes, large areas can take up to 30 minutes or even up to 1 hour.

What to expect during treatment?

A tiny probe about the same diameter of the hair is inserted down into a hair follicle opening already present in the skin. The probe is charged with a small amount of electric current and you will feel a build up of warmth concentrated in the locality or a sensation similar to a sting. Sensation will depend on area being treated. The hair is gently released from the follicle with tweezers leaving the client hair free. The hair slides out easily without traction. The procedure is repeated on each individual unwanted hair to clear the area as much as possible within a given time frame whilst taking the skin into consideration.

Does it hurt?

The sensation will depend on the hair and skin being treated. You will be able to feel concentrated heat in one area building up like a sting. Patients are generally comfortable with this treatment. A test patch area is advisable on a small area if you are worried about sensitivity. Please speak to your practitioner

What to expect after the treatment?

After the treatment the skin can be red and slightly bumpy. This will subside in 24 hours but can take longer dependent on hair type being treated.

What happens after the treatment?

A soothing cold gel is applied to increase comfort and cool the skin rapidly. Aftercare advice will be given for you to follow at home.

Are there any side effects?

You can get redness and swelling, and sometimes the area can feel tender in the treated area. These are temporary side effects. Electrolysis can cause scarring and changes in skin colour of the treated skin in some people.

Treatment Review

“I have had strong white hair for many years which laser hair removal could not treat. I have now had 5 sessions of blend electrolysis and have no hair growth back in some areas and the hair is much lighter with minimal growth, i would recommend this treatment for you if you have stubborn hair growth”
