Electrolysis
Permanent Hair Removal at City Laser & Skin Clinic in Leicester
Electrolysis remains the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal, making it an excellent solution for individuals struggling with stubborn, unwanted hair. Unlike temporary methods such as waxing, threading, or shaving, electrolysis targets the hair follicle directly to ensure lasting results.
Our Leicester skin clinic offers professional electrolysis treatments suitable for all hair types, skin types, and colours. Whether you have fine, coarse, light, or dark hair, our advanced electrolysis method can help you achieve long-term smooth, hair-free skin.
If you are new to our beauty salon, please book a skin consultation (£50) online, via the form below or by calling 0116 242 5299.
How Does Electrolysis Work?
A tiny, sterile probe (as fine as the diameter of the hair) is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A small electric current is then applied to destroy the follicle’s ability to regrow hair. The hair is then gently removed with tweezers. The procedure is safe and precise, and while some discomfort is normal, most clients find it tolerable. There are three primary electrolysis techniques:
Galvanic Electrolysis – Uses a direct electric current to produce a chemical reaction that destroys the hair follicle.
Thermolysis Electrolysis – Uses short-wave radiofrequency to generate heat and disable the follicle.
Blend Electrolysis – A combination of galvanic and thermolysis for maximum effectiveness, particularly for strong or distorted hair follicles.
At City Laser Clinic in Leicester, we use the Sterex Blend Method, which combines Galvanic and Thermolysis. This is the most effective method as it is especially good for removing distorted, stubborn and strong hair follicles.

How Many Electrolysis Treatments Will I Need?
The best time to start electrolysis hair removal is when you can commit to a regular treatment schedule. Since electrolysis targets hairs in the active growth phase (anagen phase), multiple sessions are required for the best results.
Each hair undergoes a cycle of growth with three key phases:
Anagen (Active Growth Phase) – Hair is attached to the follicle and actively growing.
Catagen (Transitional Phase) – Hair begins to detach from the follicle.
Telogen (Resting Phase) – The hair is no longer attached and is ready to shed.
